The LaLaurie House

source wikipedia.org

In 1832, Dr. Louis LaLaurie and his wife, Delphine, moved to their splendid quarters at 1140 Royal Street. They were wealthy Creole socialites who entertained on a grand scale, and Madame LaLaurie was reportedly both beautiful and intelligent. Louis, a native of France, was her third husband. New Orleanians who attended affairs at their home were wined and dined with the choicest food and wine, on the finest china, linens, and silver imaginable. What was unimaginable was the horror behind the facade of gentility. The LaLaurie Mansion

In 1833, after several neighbors allegedly saw her cowhiding a young servant girl in the mansion's courtyard, rumors began to spread around town that LaLaurie treated her servants viciously. According to one tale, a young slave girl was brushing LaLaurie's hair in the upstairs bedroom when the comb hit a snag in her mistress's hair, enraging LaLaurie. LaLaurie whipped the twelve-year-old slave girl, who tried to escape but fell off a balcony overlooking the courtyard and died. The girl was quickly brought into the LaLaurie Mansion, but not before being observed by neighbors, who filed a complaint. The neighbors later asserted that the young girl was buried under a tree in the yard.

The legalities of the situation were handled by Judge Jean Francois Canonge, a friend of the LaLauries, who had visited the house on a previous occasion concerning the welfare of the LaLaurie servants. The LaLaurie slaves were confiscated and put up for auction, and the LaLauries were fined $500. Some of the LaLaurie relatives arranged to buy the slaves back and quickly returned them to her.

On April 10, 1834, during another party, a fire broke out in the kitchen of the mansion. The kitchen-- as was the norm in Spanish mansions--was separate from the home and located over the carriageway building across the courtyard. The firemen entered the building through the courtyard. To their surprise, there were two slaves chained to the stove in the kitchen. It appeared as though the slaves had set the fire themselves in order to attract attention. The fire itself was soon subdued.

Horrific Stories of The Infamous Ouija Board

by DeWayne Strickland

Thanks to Parker Brothers(game company), many young people have dabbled in the paranormal and have experienced frightening results. Remember being a teenager and the mention of the Ouija board provoked your curiosity. There is not much talk about the Ouija board today, but I will never forget the stories of sheer terror, my friends shared with me as a result of using the ouijaboard.jpg
infamous Ouija board. Stories I have kept to myself, until now are revealed in this creepy dark article.

I was watching Unexplained Mysteries late one night and the narrator was talking about the movie, "The Entity". The Entity(1981 horror movie) is a movie about paranormal phenomenon, where alleged victim Carla Moran(fictional character) was attacked by a number of unseen forces. The Unexplained Mysteries show delved into what took place in the home of this woman, who
claimed she was being attacked by mad crazed ghosts. Pictures were shown on the show where spherical orbs were flying around the room and I noticed something in the pictures, that was not discussed on the show!

Normally, Unexplained Mysteries does not miss a detail as crucial to a case, as this one! I am very skeptical about these shows, but yet the pictures had some convincing photography. What caught my eye and you could barely see the image in the bottom of the picture, was a Ouija board!
You actually see a part of the board in the photograph! How in the world could this slip the eyes of the staff at Unexplained Mysteries! I've studied photographs of so-called paranormal phenomenon and the ghostly pictures on the show, were the best I have seen yet.

The Poltergeist curse

Poltergeist is an American horror film, directed by Tobe Hooper and released on June 4, 1982. It is the first and most successful of the Poltergeist film trilogy and was nominated for three Academy Awards. poltergeist.jpgThe film was co-produced, and co-written, by Steven Spielberg along with Michael Grais and Mark Victor—his first major success as a producer. The plot revolves around the haunting of a suburban family home that is suspected to be the work of poltergeists.

The franchise is often said to be cursed.

The rumor is superstition largely derived from the fact that four cast members died in a relatively short span of time (six years) between the release of the first film and the release of the third, with one dying during production of the second film. Two of them died at young ages, 12 and 22. It is not clear that these particular films are atypical in the number or nature of the deaths of their actors, and at least two of the supposed victims had serious health problems before becoming attached to the film series.

The actors who are supposed victims of the curse include:

Dominique Dunne, 22-year-old actress who played the oldest sibling Dana in the first movie, died after being choked by a jealous boyfriend in 1982. The boyfriend, John Thomas Sweeney, was later convicted and sentenced to six years in prison, though he only served three and a half years.

Julian Beck, 60-year-old actor who played Kane in Poltergeist II: The Other Side, died in 1985 of stomach cancer, with which he was diagnosed before he had accepted the role.

Will Sampson, 53 years old, who played Taylor the Medicine Man in Poltergeist II, died of post-operative kidney failure and pre-operative malnutrition problems in 1987. heather_orourke22.jpg

Heather O'Rourke, actress who played Carol Anne in all three Poltergeist movies, died in 1988 at the age of 12 after what doctors initially described as an acute form of influenza but later changed to septic shock after bacterial toxins invaded her bloodstream. At the time, she had suffered acute bowel obstruction, initially diagnosed as Crohn's disease, which may have been the cause of death.

Other occurrences that have been attributed to the curse include:

The house in Simi Valley, California used for exterior shots of the Freeling home was damaged by the Northridge earthquake of 1994.
